Henry Ford built his first vehicle, called the Quadricycle, in a workshop at the back of his house in Detroit. However, when he was ready to wheel it out of the workshop for its first test drive, he realized the Quadricycle was too wide to fit through the door! Henry had to use an ax to chop a hole in the wall of his workshop so he could get the Quadricycle outside.

Henry Ford revolutionised car manufacturing with the introduction of the moving assembly line. This new method of assembly meant that one of his famous Model Ts could be built in just 90 minutes instead of the 12 hours it had taken previously.

​Henry Ford was a pacifist, but during World War Two he helped America's war effort by turning his car factory into a war plane factory. By the time the war was over, Henry's factory had produced nearly 9,000 B-24 bombers which made a significant contribution to the defeat of Germany and Japan.
