  • In June 1940 Hitler's army entered Paris and a week later France surrendered. During World War 1, Germany had spent four years trying to defeat France, but Hitler had managed it in less than six weeks.

  • The United States attempted to end the war with Japan by using the most powerful weapon ever built - the atomic bomb. At 8.00am on August 6 1945 an American bomber dropped the bomb on the city of Hiroshima. The city was flattened and 80,000 people were killed instantly.
