Winston Churchill was born into one of England's most famous families. One of his ancestors, the First Duke of Marlborough, built the magnificent Blenheim Palace in the Oxfordshire town of Woodstock, England. Winston Churchill was born there on November 30 1874.

After school, Winston Churchill entered the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst where he trained to become an officer in the British Army. After 15 months of training he graduated eighth out of 150 students and began a career in the Army.

Winston Churchill first traveled to America in 1895 when he visited New York City. He fell in love with the country and would visit many times during his life, coming to think of it as a second home. in 1963 he was made an honorary citizen of the United States.
