  • The first voyage of Titanic would be under the command of 62-year-old Captain Edward J. Smith. He would be in charge of nearly 900 crew members and more than 1,300 passengers. Captain Smith was making his last voyage before retiring.

​

  • Passengers on Titanic were divided into three categories - 1st class, 2nd class and 3rd class. Wealthy passengers paid over $4,000 for the most expensive 1st class ticket ($60,000 in today's money). Third class tickets cost just $30.

​

  • Eight musicians were employed on Titanic to entertain the 1st class passengers. On the night that Titanic sunk they played for more than two hours to try to calm the passengers. They carried on playing right to the end and they all lost their lives.
