A few "Fascinating Facts About The Solar System"..........

  • The closest planet in the Solar System to the Sun is Mercury, and because it is so close it gets incredibly hot. Temperatures can reach 840 degrees Fahrenheit (450 degrees Celsius), which is around eight times hotter than the highest temperature on Earth.

  • There is enough gas and fuel in the Sun to last another five billion years. It will then expand into a "red giant" star and swallow the inner planets - perhaps even the Earth! The Sun will remain a red giant for around one billion years before collapsing and dying.

  • Jupiter is so far away from the Sun - around 485 million miles (780 million km) - that it takes nearly 12 Earth years to complete an orbit.
