  • Antarctica experiences the strongest winds on Earth that can reach speeds of up to 200 mph (320 kph). These fierce winds pick up huge amounts of snow, causing blizzards that can last for days.

  • 1989-1990 saw the first crossing of Antarctica using dogsleds. A six-man team led by American Will Steger was pulled across 3,700 miles (6,000 km) of ice by 36 dogs, a journey that took seven months.
